So, the Sox are pretty, pretty good. Nice of a sportswriter to admit it.

I was pleased to see columnist Chad Finn acknowledge that the Red Sox chief baseball officer, Craig Breslow, has managed trades and free agency with good sense and aplomb (“In hindsight, Breslow got a lot of things right last offseason,” Sports, July 12). Finally, a positive, supportive column about the Sox! It was magical reading it.

The Globe’s sportswriters have been so negative and disparaging about this team. From supposedly ill-conceived trades to the supposedly inept and clueless manager, there’s been no end to their condemnation. Red Sox Nation deserves better.

When there are so many young players, it often takes time for a team to jell and for players to gain confidence and self-assurance. Well, it is happening now, and I hope the curmudgeonly sportswriters will humble themselves and admit that they got this team wrong.

It’s a long season and a lot can change. The sportswriters can change, too, by seeing how talented this group really is.
