After a couple of all-time finishes, the dust has settled on the season and the final Top 20.
In the Division 2 final, Billerica outlasted Reading, 17-16, for the school’s second championship and first since 2001, followed by St. John’s Prep denying BC High, 8-7, in overtime for a fifth straight Division 1 title. Prep is an easy choice to finish atop the poll with a 53-game win streak against in-state competition and Billerica grabs the second spot on the strength of a 22-game win streak that included a regular-season win over BC High.
No. 5 Mansfield turned in the best season in program history and gave Billerica a close run in the semifinals after taking down No. 9 Hingham in the quarterfinals. Scituate, ranked sixth, stunned top-seeded Medfield in the Division 3 semifinals en route to the program’s first state title since 2009. Medfield still ranks seventh due to an impressive regular season that included wins over Hingham and No. 10 Lincoln-Sudbury.

Norwell improved throughout the season and peaked with an 11-6 win over South Shore rival Cohasset for the Division 4 state title, the program’s third championship in four years. Westwood finishes at No. 14 after its stellar run in the D2 bracket included wins over No. 7 Marshfield, No. 2 Longmeadow, and a 10-9 loss to Reading in the semifinals.
